Google Sheets business template canvas template

The Google Sheets Business Model Canvas Template is a spreadsheet template that can help you easily design your business model using the Google Docs suite.

The Business Model Canvas is probably the best-known and most widely used business modeling system in the world. It was developed by Alexandre Osterwalder in his book Business Model Generation.

It’s user-friendly and unlike anything that’s come before, as it dispenses with pages and pages of explanations and, secondly, focuses the attention of interested parties on a single canvas.

This blank canvas is graphically divided into nine basic elements, which should be filled in as follows:

  1. Customer segments: you should start filling in your Business Model Canvas here. This is because it’s easier to design your business when you already know who you’re selling to. Try to answer the question “Who is my main customer?” or “What type of customer can I generate value for” as briefly as possible.
  2. Value propositions: Having defined who your audience is, in the first block, you now need to think about the needs of these people that your product can meet. Ask yourself, “What value do I bring to my consumer?” Basically, try to highlight what differentiates your product or service from the competition.
  3. Channels: the question here is “What are the best ways for me to reach my customer?”. In this block, list all the ways in which your company can bring value to your customer, from sales and distribution channels to communications and marketing.
  4. Customer relations: the aim of this block is to bring together all the service, communication and after-sales strategies your company will use to create a relationship with the customer, in order to guarantee the loyalty of your audience, preventing them from migrating to the competition.
  5. Revenue stream: “How and how much will my customer pay for the value proposition I’m going to offer them?” This block describes how your business will make money. You may also have several revenue streams, and it’s important that they’re all included here. For example, sales, subscriptions, licenses, etc.
  6. Key resources: to complete this block, you first need to ask yourself “What resources are essential to my business to be able to deliver value to the customer?”. Then, you must also include the resources needed to keep your channels and relationship strategies running. In short, these are all fundamental assets for maintaining the business, such as software, human resources, machines, among others.
  7. Key activities: the purpose of this basic element is very similar to the previous one. Indicate here all the activities that are essential for your company to grow and bring value to the customer. These may include the development and maintenance of technologies, production lines, logistics and distribution, etc.
  8. Main partners: in this block, inform us who your business partners are, observing the motivation of each, whether they be suppliers, service providers, outsourced companies, among others.
  9. Cost structure: it’s a good idea to leave this as the last block of the Business Model Canvas to complete. By doing so, you will have already defined the main activities and resources required for your company to deliver value to the customer. You can then define the costs that these and other blocks may involve, and finally explain them.

Note that by using the Google Sheets Business Model Canvas Template to design your business model, you and your team will be able to visualize the company as a whole, on a single screen. This makes it easy to see each of its essential aspects and how they relate to each other.
